Unifi Plants Trees with three Local Schools in Honor of Earth Day

Unifi Inc. (NYSE: UFI) honored Earth Day by partnering with local community schools to plant North Carolina’s state tree, the Dogwood. The company’s Greensboro employees nominated their children’s schools to win a tree planting activity to honor Earth Day. Three Guilford county schools were selected to participate in the Earth Day tree planting activities, which included some 2nd, 4th and 5th graders from Colfax Elementary, Jesse Wharton Elementary and E.P. Pearce Elementary.
The tree planting initiative was focused on educating the children on the importance of recycling, environmental sustainability and the company’s recycled fiber, REPREVE®. “As a company, we are committed to social and environmental sustainability and we want to motivate and encourage our younger generations to participate in Earth Day- everyday”, said Roger Berrier, Executive Vice President for Unifi. “And this was a perfect opportunity to engage and educate students about how they can minimize their everyday impact on the environment.”
Unifi understands the important responsibility corporations have in caring for the environment. As part of their sustainability initiatives, Unifi has developed a family of fibers called REPREVE®.
