Patagonia®'s Synchilla Fleece Vest Now Made With Repreve
A Special Web Site Feature
As a leading brand in outdoor and casual clothing, Patagonia continually challenges itself to be more environmentally friendly. In 2007, the company set out to rethink the Synchilla®
vest—an iconic, top-selling product—with a goal of making the product with recycled content as well as recyclable.
Todd Copeland, Material Developer for Patagonia, said, "I think the biggest challenge in recycled polyester was for us to find a recycled polyester yarn that we could switch in for a virgin polyester yarn."
Patagonia chose Repreve yarn as a first-quality ingredient to make the fleece fabric for the vest.
Using Repreve significantly reduced the footprint of the Synchilla vest. One vest made with Repreve yarn now conserves the equivalent of ¾ of a gallon of gasoline. And the yarn is made
in North America (Yadkinville, North Carolina), so production is geographically close.
The collaboration between Repreve and Patagonia can be seen on Patagonia's "Footprint ChroniclesTM " website.
