Years ago, Unifi came up with a proprietary process to recycle its own fiber waste, which led to the Repreve family of recycled fibers. Because Repreve uses fewer natural resources, our planet benefited. And so did our business. We’re now a global leader in recycled fibers.
Recently, we built our new Repreve Recycling Center
in Yadkinville, North Carolina, opening up a world of
possibilities for recycled textiles. This significant investment will expand our production capacity for recycling more materials into Repreve. Now we can turn more and more plastic bottles, fiber waste, and fabric scraps into Repreve recycled fiber.

State-of-the-Art Recycling Technology

With the opening of this new plant, Unifi is taking on the challenge of recycling fabrics back into fiber. The 50,000 square-foot Repreve Recycling Center enables Unifi to recycle polyester-based fabrics as well as post-industrial and post-consumer polyester waste.

Increasing Production, Conserving More Resources

  • In 2012, global production of Repreve will keep over 900 million plastic bottles from landfills. * And it will save...

The energy equivalent of 8.2 million gallons of gasoline

An amount of water equal to daily drinking water for 1,600 people for a lifetime

The amount of carbon sequestered by 1,400,750 trees in one year **

The amount of GHG emitted from driving over 127 million miles (that’s driving every US road in a hybrid car 31 times!) ***

* Numbers derived from forecasted production for 2012.
Numbers calculated during a Lifecycle Inventory (LCI) study using published and internal data. LCI is part of a Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) study.

Sustainably Built

The new recycling center was built for a business goal—to expand production capabilities and grow volume for improved economics. However, it also serves Unifi’s goal of reducing its overall manufacturing footprint.

Sustainable features include:
  • Sixty-seven skylights to take advantage of natural sunlight
  • Energy-conserving light fixtures controlled by sensor technology
  • Low-flow plumbing fixtures and motion sensors to reduce water use by 34%
  • Building materials bought regionally, made of recycled content
  • Energy Recovery Kit that captures and re-utilizes heat from Repreve chip production
Making The News
Repreve recycled is getting the attention of the trade and popular press.
Better For The Planet
Repreve recycled yarn offsets the need to use new crude oil to produce virgin polyester and nylon.
Who Makes Repreve
Repreve is made by a U.S.-based company, Unifi, Inc., a global leader in innovative textile solutions.
